Dr. Loong-Tak Lim received his Doctoral degree in Food Science from the University of Guelph (1994-1999) and BSc. degree in Food Science from Acadia University (1990-1994). He is the team leader of the Packaging and Biomaterial Group, focuses on research topics related to food packaging, electrospinning/electrospraying, encapsulation, biopolymer film/coating, and coffee technology. Prior to joining the University of Guelph in 2005 as a faculty member, he was with Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd., Bolton, Canada (1999-2005), working extensively with injection molding and single/two-stage injection stretch blow molding technologies, as well as packaging prototyping. At the University of Guelph, he teaches two undergraduate courses (Food Packaging and Food Engineering Principles), and co-teaches several other courses at graduate and undergraduate levels. Studies from his research group have contributed to the understanding of food-packaging interaction and development of better packaging to increase the shelf-life of food. Through studying and exploiting the fundamental properties of food and polymeric materials, his research group has developed methodologies to produce ultrafine fibers and films that open up a myriad of potential end-use applications, both in food and non-food areas.
